Railroads and patrons boost Estherville prosperity
The Estherville area relies on the Rock Island division as its shops and offices sustain a large payroll, supporting merchants and local jobs. Merchants should favor rail freight over trucks to protect regional tax revenue, payrolls, and overall economic health, while debates on NRA and European war linger amid recovery efforts. The essay urges public cooperation with railroads and political figures and hints at local newspaper influence and subscriptions.

Milk Prices Move Up for Farmers and Consumers
Milk prices are set to rise for both farmers and consumers after a Washington conference last week. Farmers will receive 1.95 dollars per hundred pounds, up from 1.55, while consumer prices rise to a minimum 9 cents and a maximum 10 cents per quart, with relief agency milk capped at 84 cents per quart and butterfat content limits between 3.2 and 3.9 percent. Jerry H. Mason of the Cooperative Dairy Marketing Association in Des Moines attended and says the 40-cent rise per hundred pounds translates to about 400 dollars daily extra for Des Moines area producers.
