Carnival Lights Up Witherville As Town Turns Out

The Patterson and Brainerd company brings an excellent line of attractions for the first street carnival in Witherville. Knights of Pythias backed the effort, with a five-car show from Aberdeen to Oklahoma City. Highlights include Wheeler brothers on Lincoln Street, glass-blowers tent, Dreamland maze, a free electric theater, Ferris wheel by the bank, and a miniature railroad. Weather cleared, crowds grew, and the event is praised as wholesome family amusement with no objectionable content.

City awards coal supply contract to Pinney Coal Co

The city council awarded the coal contract for the electric light and water plant to E. E. Pinney Coal Company of Cedar Rapids after debate. The Smith Lowe Co had previous attempts but failed to prove prompt delivery. Pinney’s price is four cents higher per ton, but supporters say the extra cost will be offset by better reliability and past experimental loans of $200 to $250.
