Laymen Oppose Merger of Northwest Iowa Methodist Groups
The Laymen's association of the northwest Iowa Methodist conference voted unanimously at Webster City against merging with the Upper Iowa conference. The proposal moves to the jurisdictional conference in Chicago next year, with opposition citing an unwieldy union and venue concentration in eastern Iowa. Bishop Magee announced the new Methodist church union and its Iowa and U.S. membership totals. RS Carlton was named president and Otto F Bartz reelected secretary.

Highway No 9 Ranked 16th Among Iowa Trunk Roads
The Highway Commission counted nearly 600 vehicles per day on Highway No 9 at several posts in 1937, placing it 16th among Iowa’s eighteen trunk roads. No large cities boost the figures, and recent paving has raised travel through Swea City. Once gaps close, No 9 may rise higher, as gravel east of Forest City limits tourist traffic.
