Estherville must resist Rock Island division move
The piece argues that salaried Rock Island clerks and officials have moved from Estherville to Cedar Rapids and elsewhere, costing about ten thousand dollars a month in salaries. It cites Supt H. E. Allen’s transfer from Fairbury, Nebraska, to Estherville, his residence investment, a lemon purchase dispute, and a lawsuit that led to harassment of Allen. The article urges business leaders and the Chamber of Commerce to adopt resolutions supporting the company and opposing persecution, warning of a potential division move to Orleans to benefit the railroad.
