Cuba Crisis Deepens as US Considers Force
Havana Sept 26 Secretary Taft and Assistant Secretary Bacon told the Associated Press they are disgusted with Cuban leaders and have practically abandoned peace efforts, warning force may be needed as elections were rotten and insurgent forces have become lawless. General Freyre Andrade warned against American control, while Taft urged settlement without force if possible. The Navy dispatched guards to protect a British rail shop, and the Indiana and Kentucky were ordered to Cuba. Cumming opened a campaign in Churdan IA.
