Rural telephone service plans outlined by Northwestern Bell
Northwestern Bell plans to improve and extend rural telephone service in the area. Eighty five percent of rural families near Weatherville have service, higher than the regional average of 83 percent. Only about 50 percent of rural lines are efficient. The firm will replace ground circuits with two wire systems to reduce static, cooperate with farmers and REA cooperatives, and study microwave radio options to widen access and reliability, aiming to supply service where rural power lines exist but no lines.

Judge Studies Drainage Case Over Highway Ditch
Judge F C Davidson has the drainage dispute under advisement after a four day trial. James Jacobson seeks an injunction against the 12 Mile Lake township board of supervisors to restore culverts and stop an open ditch along a public highway that allegedly diverts natural drainage from his land. Defendants include board members Kenneth Harding E S Camden and W G McIlwraith and Andrew C Jacobson. The plaintiff contends a ridge north south of the road was cut in 1940 lowering the grade and creating a ditch that diverts water onto the neighboring farm, flooding parts of his land. County Attorney F E Rosendahl and attorney W S Johnston represented defendants and Andrew Jacobson respectively. The defense argues the highway changes did not alter drainage.
