Universal Military Training gains wide support in Congress
A National Security League canvass shows 157 House members and 39 Senators in favor of universal military training on a permanent basis. Only one House opponent, Rep. Carl Hayden, leaves a narrow margin of 117-? in the House with many converts among moderates and several senators. Letters from new proponents praise training for its educational value and national self defense, while some caution about implementation details.

What Victory Means by Booth Tarkington
A nationalistic piece argues a German victory would yield global domination by a Kaiser, with the United States reduced to a defeated, governed nation under Potsdam. It warns that a world under German rule leaves no middle ground, predicting Kaiser-led global governance or conquest. It frames the war as existential for freedom and self-rule.
