Soybeans Value in Dairy Rations Highlighted by Espe
Dwight Espe of Iowa State College states whole soybeans offer clear advantages over soybean oilmeal in dairy cattle diets up to four pounds per animal daily. A bushel of soybeans contains about 10 pounds of oil, while oilmeal has only about a pound of oil per the same amount. Oil supports energy but can lower butterfat if used in excess. soybeans provide protein and fat when combined with corn and oats, remaining a solid home-grown feed option even after oil extraction.
