Election order granted for incorporation vote
Superior petitioned the court for an election preliminary to incorporation and a special election was granted and will be held soon. The junior member of the firm, G. W. Gruwell, is in Des Moines as a delegate to represent the Christian Endeavor society at the state convention. The Sibley Tribune casts doubt on M. K. Whelan’s unopposed legislative election, but Beacon defends him as likely to do the square thing for the district and state. A cold wave brought early snow across the northwest on Sunday. Mrs. Wm Weckel and granddaughter left for Fruita, Colorado after visiting Charles Weckel. Florence Haynes will go to Valparaiso Indiana next week to enter normal college. Earl Miller has a new compositor job at Buffalo Center Tribune. In Baltimore a pigeon shooting tournament crowned Fred Gilbert of Spirit Lake world champion, winning a cup and $518 after twenty five straight birds. Isiah Dispanet and Miss Julia Schaefer married October 29 at Rev. M. W. Evans home. Orin C. Amundson and Miss Rosella Williams wed October 24 with Rev. W. M. Evans officiating. Torga Lardell ended Maple Hill work and treated pupils to a Swan Lake visit.

High Record September Temperatures Offset by Corn Gains
Northwest Iowa saw drought stress hurt corn while eastern counties posted gains. Iowa crop reporters estimate yield at 41.4 bushels per acre, above ten year average and sixth largest in 36 years. Though production rose 51 percent from last year, prices are lower and spirits dampen. October rains, cool mornings, and a late October freeze affect drying and husking readiness, with Jack Frogt appearing as the kernel ripe for harvest.
