Northwestern Iowa Storms Ravaged Rolfe and Surrounding Areas
Severe storms swept northwestern Iowa with Rolfe taking the brunt. A cyclone struck Sunday evening killing a Chinese laundry worker and causing extensive damage to the Rock Island station, a harness shop, livery stable, and multiple buildings. Roads, telegraph lines, and rail lines were disrupted as communities began clearing wreckage and assessing tens of thousands in losses. The Des Moines river rose and then fell, flooding homes and barns while health officials warned of post flood dangers.
