Cloudburst floods Emmets county river and bridges
A night of heavy rain swelled the Des Moines river and Brown Creek, washing out bridges and flooding homes across Emmetsburg area. Experts estimate 4 to 10 inches of rain with river rises up to 12 feet in six hours, threatening more as temporary washouts halt railroad traffic and leave farms and chicken houses ruined. Local residents escape by boat as officials plan rapid repairs and assess agricultural losses and delayed planting.
