The Orleans Hotel on Spirit Lake, long run by the Burnside family for 30 years, sold to Mr and Mrs F E Weatherly of Mason City and Clear Lake. Karl Burnside assisted at the closing, with transfer completed last Wednesday. The new owners will open the hotel and cafe on Saturday May 13 for fishing season. The sale includes the New Orleans Hotel dance pavilion cafe and oil station. Mrs Burnside retains her nearby home and summer cottage and will continue to summer there. The Burnside family history notes multiple prior hotels on the site dating back to 1883, with several fires and rebuilds shaping the current 20 room hotel. Changes planned include remodeling the dance pavilion and redecorating the cafe under the pavilion for a big orchestra.
