Edson R Waite of Shawnee Oklahoma argues a shift in public thinking on trade and unemployment. He says purchasing power drives trade and jobs and criticizes government economic measures as contracting business. He urges Congress to promote schemes easing farmer and industrial debts through better prices and spending.
News item notes yeggmen entered the city post office on a Wednesday night in May 1923, breached two vaults and escaped without disturbing anyone nearby. Additional society notes mention local residents: Dan Booth family visiting from Excelsior Springs Missouri and visits by Mrs Clarence Ladd from Minneapolis for her father Dr E W Bachman’s illness. Engineer James Hardie and wife move from Cedar Rapids to Estherville, occupying James Crawford cottage. Mrs Glenn Wanamaker and son Donald return from Ottawa Kansas.
From the May 21, 1933 issue of the Vindicator and Republican. Mrs George Rossmanson of Victor Iowa arrived Saturday to visit her daughters Mrs Ford Conley Mrs W B Flindt and Mrs Harry Hollenbeck. Mr and Mrs Archer and daughter Miss Mildred of Ontario Canada arrived Saturday morning to visit Dr M E Wilson and J H Wilson and their families. George Rugtiv J T Sandren and Theodore Myhre are making extensive improvements to cottages on Spirit Lake east shore. Mrs M Groves left Monday to attend the Iowa Federation Women's club meeting at Cedar Rapids. Dr and Mrs W P Galloway left Saturday for Excelsior Springs Missouri to remain at least for the summer.
VR THIRTY YEARS AGO reports the Okamanpadu chapter formed at Estherville home of Regent Mrs Emma Allen with 12 charter members on a Wednesday. The river’s fall leads to good pickerel catches. Armstrong shows debt of $6402.29.
Mise Jean Hoch of Washington and Kansas, daughter of former congressman Homer Hoch, was elected Northwestern University May queen by a student body vote. She is noted for her campus leadership and ties to the Hoch family.
Local families hosted visitors including Audrey Gunderson and Orr and Schultz while many residents attended weekend gatherings. In school news, language booklets, May calendars, and color lessons appeared. Reports note exams, illness absences, a junior high scoring 100% in spelling, a senior play, and Friday night exhibits and performances.

William Shirley was re-elected superintendent of Kossuth County schools at last Tuesday s district representatives meeting. With 41 present he received 21 votes while Guy Hart of Bancroft earned 10 and Donald Weir of Burt nine. Shirley has led the county schools for 20 years and previously led Swea City and Waukee districts.

Four new National Honor Society members were installed at a six o'clock dinner at the high school. Florence Norby, Margaret Kennedy, Dorothy Tomhave, and Marion Rousseau were chosen for scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Daisy Paulson gave the welcome, Norby spoke, and the others spoke on service, character, and leadership. J S Hilliard addressed the group. W A Cresap presented pins. Helen Martinson read and signed the pledge.
Miss Edith and Laura Mathwig hostesses Friday evening for the Trienbid bridge club. Cards will be played at three tables. C. D. of A. go to Emmetsburg. The court of Esther ville and Spencer entertained at Emmetsburg this evening at seven thirty dinner followed by a study club. Many members from here plan to attend.
