Watchorn on Immigration and American loyalty
Commissioner Robert Watchorn spoke at a New York church arguing immigration does not swell the population by 1,000,000 yearly. He cited 492,090 foreign born residents left New York ports last year and asserted immigrants do not drain capital, as labor is the country’s true capital. He credited immigrants with strong loyalty, denied that steamship firms drive migration, and noted rates fell when fares dropped in 1934.
