Revelation as apocalyptic view and its lasting power
The essay argues Revelation is misunderstood as predicting current events, not a code for Nero era persecutions. It notes apocalyptic literature flourished after Old and New Testaments, and John wrote from Patmos to encourage churches in Asia Minor. Three core ideas emerge: endure persecution, beware Rome’s trouble, and hold to faith that Christ outlasts Nero. The Church, not Roman or classical culture, saved civilization after Jerusalem’s destruction and Rome’s fall.
