Engineer recalls historic locomotive on Rock Island line
Frank Lumsden now a Storm Lake auto dealer and former Wabash and Rock Island engineer spots a relic locomotive he once piloted. In 1897 he pulled the No 5 limited from Des Moines to Omaha with engine 661. He notes the engine now runs Gowrie to Sibley while Thomas Usry operates it on the Rock Island mainline. The sight prompts reflection on locomotive changes over time.

Two Thousand Boys Feed Calves in Iowa
Ames Iowa March 22 The high price of feed has lowered calf numbers in state baby beef clubs reports John A Day of the Iowa Beef Producers of Agriculture. Even with the drop there are 1230 calves on feed in 49 counties with 35 counties remaining to hear from and a total of about 2000 calves fed is expected. The boys feeding calves this year are likely to be better repaid as a shortage of finished cattle seems likely.
