New Order Urges Tin Can Collection Nationwide
A new order directs all refuse collectors to segregate tin cans found in garbage and offer them to the salvage committee. Householders, hospitals, hotels, and eating places must process and separate cans. The rule applies across the United States, not just in designated areas. City officials should set a monthly pickup time for processed cans. Private collectors must segregate cans and may refuse pickups from large establishments if cans are unprocessed. The town faces a two million pound deficit in tin cans carried over from last year, with a higher target for 1945 as support pours in for war needs.
