Farmers Hear Local Man Talk on Electrification
Fifty farmers from the surrounding territory heard Harry Day, Estherville superintendent of the DEK, discuss REA electricity at the Legion hall in Swea City. He outlined a minimum $3.65 charge for the first 40 kilowatts and a 1–2 cent per kilowatt rate for higher use, with wiring must meet national electric code before service begins. Payment starts 60 days after transmission line energization, and any unwired farms would be charged for unused current. Day urged immediate wiring and noted a shortage of skilled electricians, announcing a technical school for electricians in Swea City soon.
