Big Tax Revision Bill Recommended By Senate Panel
Senate Ways and Means backed Beardley’s plan to fuse sales franchise and individual net income taxes, estimated to yield 25 to 40 million yearly. First 25 million would fund school districts, next five million reduce state government costs, above that to be set by Legislature. Competing measures include Patterson tax bill and 15 percent tax on income from tax exempt securities. Other proposals would allow quarterly tax payments and 10 percent rate on certain incomes. House amendments to the Bennett Beatty 25 cent tax cut could revive tax revision efforts soon.
