My Favorite Stories By 1ADIW 5. COBB Archies Cricket Ritual
Archie Gunn, a Scots artist educated in England, loves cricket. Wil Kirk, a Wisconsin-born verse writer, joins Gunn in Staten Island to witness a Greater New York championship match. A powerful hit leads to crowd cheers and a playful ritual as Kirk imitates the spectators. A fielder slips, the ball hits him, and Kirk yells a cheer. Modern scene contrasts knee dresses and posies on the corner as a power girl or bride.
