Friday Night a Lively One in Road Relocation Talks

A dozen plus autos from Spencer and Ruthven visited to discuss the Spirit Lake Des Moines road with Fort Dodge not present. Estherville and Ruthven-Spencer delegations met the pathfinders, with Estherville pushing a west-of-river route and holding the advantage as the talks continued.

Water Tank at Williams Collapses on Trestle

The Williams city water tank toppled from a sixty foot trestle, striking a nearby residence and shattering windows on one side. The old tank, filled with water, flooded the street as the supporting tinder sections aged and weakened.

Bolt Injures Two At Winona Thunderstorm Strike

A severe storm in Winona Minnesota struck the home of Mrs Herman Kraze early Thursday. Mrs Kraze temporarily lost sight of one eye and her little daughter Gertrude suffered severe burns to the back. Her sister Miss Ledebuhr was stunned but uninjured. Damages to the house were estimated at 200 dollars.

Spirit Lake June 12 Special State Fish and Game Commissioner George Lincoln of Cedar Rapids considers buying a large dredge for Spirit Lake area use. Spirit Lake boosters would cover installation costs. Aimed to deepen channels among East Okoboji Upper Ora Minnewashia Lower Gar, and grant a boat route from West Okoboji to the isthmus. A lock between Spirit and East Okoboji is seen, creating a 30 mile waterway and triggering further lake improvements. Senator L E H Francis secured a dredge option and handed it to Lincoln. New School Law Expands Free High School Training Statewide

The legislature passed a law offering free high school training to all youths. Residents may attend a four year program at a district expense, with tuition charged to their home corporation. Certificates from local school officials and the county superintendent are required. If a corporation fails to pay, the creditor board informs the auditor who transfers funds to the debtor. Special Train to Emmetsburg for Hatherville Game

Hatherville ball team plans a special 12:30 pm train to Emmetsburg for an upcoming Sunday game. A large Hatherville crowd is urged to attend and cheer four boys to victory. Clyde Farmer and Dave Wassom from Spirit Lake and Perry Iowa will join Hatherville, with one slated for shortstop and the other in reserve as needed. Cliff Halleck moves into George Walters’ east town residence this week. Des Moines trade excursionists visit Thursday evening and will be hosted at Elks headquarters with businesses staying open past eight.

Memorial Day Service Held by Royal Neighbors at Christian Church

Royal Neighbors observed Memorial Day with a public service at the Christian Church on Sunday June 11. Mrs. Alice Nash of Minneapolis, supreme auditor, spoke to an attentive audience. District deputy Mrs. Anna Smith and Oracle Mrs. Cooper lent readings. Degres staff members performed ritual work, and musical pieces by Mrs. Morse and a duet by Miss Lyman and Mrs. Lindsay were praised. Refreshments followed in the I. C. O. FY hall for visiting neighbors from multiple camps and towns.

Auto Tax Law Sparks Debate Among Car Makers

City of Estherville Iowa notes intention to contract a new sewer line on North Ninth Street from Main Street to East Pleasant. A public hearing is set for July 2, 1911, at 8 p.m. in the council room to allow property owners to object and review the proposed resolution and construction plans. The contract will be awarded to a qualified bidder, with costs assessed against abutting properties within 132 feet of the street.
