Emil Leo Celebrates 74th Birthday Social Event

A Friday evening party at Emil Leo’s home honored his 74th birthday with friends and family. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. R. J. West and others, with two visitors from Omaha and Graettinger. Girls’ leaders and many volunteers organized activities and exhibits, including nature posters and crafts later displayed at the shelter house.

Triple E Club Meets at Mrs Irwin Home

Members of the Triple E Club gathered Thursday afternoon at Mrs J A Irwin's home with Mrs Tom Eide assisting. A regular business meeting was held and plans were made for an upcoming picnic. United Service Women elect historians at Monday meeting

In the Legion club rooms at City Hall regular United Service Women session saw Mrs. L. E. Thomas resign as historian and Mrs. Walter Schildnecht elected as new historian with Miss Pauline Jensen as assistant historian. Mrs. J. M. Ulrich joined as a new member. about fifteen members attended. The group seeks women with brothers sons or husbands in the armed services to report to Mrs. G. E. Tomhave or Miss Geraldine Buckley for recruitment.

Girl Scouts Present Closing Program at State Park

Approximately forty parents relatives and friends attended the four day camp closing program at State Park. The girls and Brownies staged a pledge allegiance star spangled banner and skits including Under a Spreading Chestnut Tree and a ford themed skit. Prizes defense stamps corsages were awarded and remarks honored the week’s work. Attending girls from Wallingford and others are listed with recipients named.

Jake Koelstad was taken to Coleman hospital after a stroke, with the event occurring Saturday. Several families including the Irwins and Perry Irwin spent Sunday in Woodward with Lem Irwin. Mrs. William Yule resigns to join her husband in Yankton, South Dakota, an air school instructor. Others travel: Mrs. Morse and daughter Sonja return to San Francisco after five months in Estherville. Carmel Jean Morton graduates as a medical technician in St. Louis and heads to Atlantic for a six month internship. The Smiths of Pipestone visit their sons Orville and Rex, plus Frank Smith and his family, while Albert Lea relatives stay with Barrett and Smith. Fr. A. Johnson vacations at a West Okoboji cottage. Joe Yeager returns to Chicago after a weekend in Estherville visiting Mrs. Hawk, Bernice Lee, and Lou Ann. Miss Lois Lee of Corning reports her brother died July 10 and her mother the following Friday, shock of loss. Mrs. Etta Woods, Louis Barlow and son Jackie visit from Des Moines to see their daughter/sister Rank Eltwanger. Ellen and Alice Conway depart for Seneca Indiana after three and two weeks in Estherville, former Batherville residents.

Mrs. Frank Davis returned to Sioux Falls after two weeks in Estherville with her daughter, Mrs. L. J. Bennett. Mrs. A. M. Cole went to Minneapolis to spend two months visiting with her daughter. Minnesota Drivers Lose Licenses In Liquor Driving Crackdown

One hundred fifty four Minnesota motorists had state licenses revoked for driving under the influence last month. Additional revocations and suspensions arose from war time speed violations reckless driving and disobedience of stop signs. For the first six months the totals show 2964 forfeitures with 991 revocations and 1878 suspensions, including 885 for drunken driving and 470 for excessive speed.
