Discharged General Lincoln Ties to Iowa Military Row
Gen James Rush Lincoln was discharged at Camp Dodge after serving in three wars and held a major of infantry in the temporary U S army. Born 1845 in Maryland, he earlier served with the Confederate army, became Ames state college commandant, and sparked a bitter political battle over a former Confederate officer in Iowa. Also noted are broad WWI demobilization figures, the death of Davis Entrikin who invented the first mowing machine, rising divorce filings in Polk County, and local legal cases including the Des Moines dog case with Witthauer and McKowan.

Prairie land and school tobacco issue in older Iowa notes
A fragment from a historic Iowa page mentions a former congressman who bought 2600 acres in northern Kossuth county, now valued higher, with much of the land undeveloped. It notes 50,000 acres of raw prairie in the county, and reports that 50 percent of junior and senior high boys are smokers, prompting a parental letter drive by Superintendent B E Weaver. It also recounts a Taylor county tax dispute over back taxes tied to a revival sermon-era restitution theme.
