Rain boosts swine disease risks and hygiene warnings
Heavy rain across the farm belt raises risks to hog herds with potential increases in enteric parasites and necrotic enteritis. Authorities urge clean, dry pastures, away from old hog lots, and caution about contaminated water, muddy gear, and animal movement between farms. Veterinarians should examine pigs with poor gains or weight loss to prevent herd spread. The Red Cross room will be open Saturdays for garment requests, and local social notes mention visits among Boone residents and office employment during a vacation.
