History of Ku Klux Klan and what it stands for
Unbiased account by Cecil Munson traces the Ku Klux Klan from its 1865 Pulaski origin as a social club to a wartime fearsome force. It contrasts northern reaction, led by Alfred Talley, with southern views that the Klan preserved white supremacy and chivalry. The piece notes secrecy, public misperception from films, and ongoing expansion into the North, with a continued warning that the old South saw it as a protector of white dominance.
