U S Navy Journeys to France With No Losses in Sub Attacks
The statement by Secretary Daniels reports American convoyed transports reaching France safely after two German submarine assaults. No ships or personnel were lost, at least one U-boat sunk, and destroyers and convoy protections held off attackers. The news coincides with celebrations of Independence Day as Pershing's expeditionary force arrives.

Chautauqua Next Year Promises Balanced Program
On the closing day of the chautauqua it was decided the Redpath Vanter system would return to Estherville next year with a possibly stronger program. About 400 to 500 tickets were sold with 40 businessmen backing a 700-ticket target. The 1917 lineup was praised for balance, with no weak numbers, and a varied program aimed to please all audiences.
