Basis For Expenditure Of Airport Funds In Estherville
Estherville's municipal airport, a class 2 port with two runways totaling 2,640 and 3,600 feet, is not slated for a class 3 upgrade. Civil Aeronautics Administrator T. P. Wright explains funding decisions depend on local needs and immediate aviation requirements rather than port class, noting a planned program focuses on lighting and radio facilities with the current landing area deemed adequate for near term needs. He cites elevation adjustments and standards requiring 3,500-foot runways at sea level for class 3, with Estherville's elevation necessitating an 8,800-foot effective runway under proposed criteria.

Firemen first responded to Harker Beauman Co lumber yard where a truck near shingles caught fire after workers left the motor running for a loading call.
