Mob Hangs James Cullen in Floyd River Bridge Lynching
A mob of about five hundred Charles City residents overpowered the Floyd County Sheriff, dragged James Cullen from the jail, and hanged him from a bridge girder after he murdered his wife and his fifteen year old stepson with a butcher knife. Ensign Roper of the Salvation Army spoke briefly, Cullen refused prayer.
