Voters to decide on new airport land purchase bonds

City attorney William Bale prepared a notice for a February 3 1941 special election in Estherville to decide whether to buy land outside city limits for an airport and whether to issue bonds up to 60000 dollars to cover land and airport improvements. The measure, backed by 90 percent of petition supporters, seeks a 20 year tax plan at 1.25 dollars per thousand to raise about 3800 annually. The Chamber of Commerce airport committee urged action citing defense training and transcontinental flight routes as justifications. If approved, government aid may match the city’s 60000 to equip the airport.
