Iowa Prisons Reach Capacity With Parole Relief
A. M. McColl of the state board of control reports that Iowa prisons at Anamosa and Fort Madison maintain employment, good food, and sanitary quarters, with each inmate in a single cell. Fort Madison houses 1,177 of 1,058 capacity. Anamosa holds 1,173 of 1,000. About 300 parole monthly prevents crowding. 79 inmates at Anamosa are insane and Anamosa serves as a reformatory for young first offenders.
