County Board selects newspapers for official proceedings

Emmet County Iowa Board of Supervisors selects Estherville Enterprise Estherville News and Vindicator and Republican as official newspapers for 1930 with two thirds compensation. Board approves Glenn Walter Farm Bureau report and issues $750 quarterly warrant. Meeting adjourns to February 3 1930. Dorothy Klopp County Auditor.

News of Earlier Days in the 1890 Northern Vindicator

From the January 13 1890 issue of the Northern Vindicator Arthur Figar has gone to Denver Colo where he has a position Carrie Bartlett returned to her desk in the lumber office Monday after a severe illness Miss Alice Pullen entertained a few friends at her home south of town Saturday night The young people of that section make a regular thing of Saturday evening entertainments and they are very much enjoyed S Seratson captured a wolf the last of the week that measured five feet from Up to up and G J Barber shot a large one at about the same time They must have come from Dakota after some of Emmet counties famous sheep Miss Alice Robins from Center Point Iowa arrived this week and will make her home with her brother Mr O Robins She has been sick with pneumonia but is now recovering The younger boys and girls of Estherville seem to be having better times than anybody these days Sleighing parties for them are numerous H C Shadboldt and Alex Peddie of Emmetsburg were in attendance at the Knight Templar s meeting Tuesday night Mrs John Goff was unexpectedly called to West Bend last Friday her daughter Mrs C Rhodes being dangerously ill Hogs are selling at 3 20 nowadays The ice harvest is over and 700 tons are stowed away for next summers use Born To Mr and Mrs Ole Anderson of Emmet township Jan 21 a boy M W Woolcutt carried the Bancroft mail from Swan Lake last week in order to let Mr Owen care for the sick all of which are on the gain
