Prairie life and early settlers of Emmet County
The passage paints a vivid prairie scene with water fowl and birds, noting mosquitoes, humble bees, and the slow travel of settlers using wagons before cars. It mentions Algona as the nearest railroad town in 1874, Estherville as the only Emmet county railroad town in 1882, and Armstrong's first railroad arrival in 1859.
