In the 1918 Iowa junior pig club contest four hundred youths fed 517 pigs for 123 days. Net profit reached 6729 dollars and 80 cents with an average pig gain of 27.23 dollars per head, and total weight gain of 89 059 pounds. Initial values and end values presented, with cost per pig and per pound.
Veterinary extension man warns against pushing a capsule gun too far back in a pig’s throat as it can tear the soft palate. An alternate method suggests setting the pig on its haunches and tossing the capsule into the mouth then flushing with water.
