Wood cutting guidance to conserve timber resources
There are no fixed limits on timber types to cut but care is advised in selecting trees to preserve reserves after past crises. In 1914 Towa consumed 1.5 million cords of wood and 1918 burned 3 million cords. Hardwoods require nine to twelve months to season. softer woods like cottonwood and willow season faster and should be cut for quick use. Larger trees are preferred over small, and splitting logs promptly speeds seasoning.
