Early History of Emmet County Recalls Devout Past
J B Hudson recalls Emmet county and nearby Minnesota in the 19th century. Religious life shaped daily work and debates, with revival meetings and rustic schools strengthening young minds. Elder Clough, William Tope, and Dr Bixby are named among influential figures. The piece notes a border settlement with shared social life and a temperance fight in Emmet county ending in a narrow ministerial victory.
