Rock Rapids Issues City Workmen Scrip
Rock Rapids uses a new 50 cent scrip as partial pay for city workers on jobs aimed at alleviating unemployment. Workers receive 20 cents per hour plus two scrip pieces and 60 cents in cash daily. Each time scrip circulates a two cent stamp is applied, and after 54 stamps the bill can be cashed for 50 cents. This plan spurs new business, relieves families, and spreads the bill across the community.
