Des Moines reports from November 27 note tuberculin tests across regions show avian tuberculosis largely preventable by raising chicks away from old birds on sanitary fresh ground. Chief Malcom of the Department of Agriculture says young birds are infection free when old birds and infected premises are removed and shelters cleaned before placing new stock. Eliminating TB would also improve flock profitability by reducing worms and other diseases and cutting Hog carcasses affected by avian TB.
