Stamp Tax Rules Go Into Effect December First
The new stamp tax applies to deeds and bonds, revenue stamps required on instruments over $100, and various financial documents. Rates include 5 cents per $100 on bonds, 2 cents per $100 on drafts and notes, 10 cents for proxy votes, 25 cents for powers of attorney, and 50 cents to 1 cent on indemnity bonds depending on issuer. Parcel post postage, stock, dividends, and other items carry specific small levies. retail perfumes, cosmetics, soft drinks, and gums have no tax. Conductor Chas Goss had his left hand crushed while unloading freight at Sibley. His hand was dressed after being taken uptown, later brought home, and on Tuesday the middle finger was amputated at Anderson hospital. Doctors hope for a swift recovery and return to duty.
