Pete White for County Supervisor in Hatherville district

The sober, longtime Estherville resident Pete White has been endorsed as the Republican candidate for county supervisor. He worked ten years for the B. R. and N. railroad, then farmed near Estherville and now runs a draying business with substantial local holdings. He is described as conservative and capable on bridge construction projects, fit to serve the county. Also noted is D. J. Kelley, a fugitive from justice for the same offense. Calumet Baking Powder ads defend purity and align with pure food laws, denouncing Rochelle salts and Seidlitz mix residues, asserting Calumet is free from Rochelle salts, lime, alum or ammonia, and challenging rivals with a $1,000 reward for any health-harming substance in their product.

Weather Crop Bulletin for Week Ending August 18 1906

The average temperature across the state was slightly above normal in the eastern half and slightly below in the western districts. Rainfall varied but all areas received some benefit from early-week showers, with the heaviest rain in the Northwest North Central and East Central districts. In the Northwest, heavy rains slowed wheat harvest and caused grain in shocks to sprout. Overall copious rains aided crops. corn was relieved at a critical stage, pastures improved, and late potatoes show promise of good yields. Some southern areas need more rain, while central and northern regions have adequate moisture to mature crops.
