Superior Social Roundup One Week of Local News
A lengthy recap of community life in Superior lists visits and guests at clubs homes and farms. It notes dinners hosted by the Wade family, visits of Mrs Drake and Miss Hurd, farmers and merchants moving or traveling, church society events including Mite Box programs, and a busy camp meeting scene with residents visiting relatives in Estherville and Lake Wilson.
Iowa Soldiers Bonus Law and Bond Issue
The state of Iowa seeks to incur 22 million dollars through negotiable bonds to fund a WWI service bonus for residents who served between April 6 1917 and November 11 1918. A Bonus Board will administer payments, with eligibility tied to residency and discharge status, plus a disability supplement. Bonds bear up to 5 percent interest, payable over 20 years, secured by state credit. A dedicated annual tax would raise 1.1 million dollars to service principal and interest. The act, approved March 23 1921, awaits voter approval at the 1922 general election.
