European corn borer unfounded in Iowa says entomologist
Dr C J Drake head of Iowa State College entomology says reports of the European corn borer in Iowa are unfounded based on examined specimens. Federal data show distant findings only near Toledo Ohio with quarantines in place. He notes the borer damages corn stalks and ears and urges farmers to submit suspected insects and affected plant material promptly. Earl Weaver urges cool barns and painted windows to deter flies.
