Cattle Feeders Strengthen Spring Buying
Federal Agricultural Statistician Leslie M. Carl reports Iowa cattle feeders have bought 39 percent more feeder and stocker cattle since January 1, 1933 than the previous year. In the first three months this year about 72,000 head entered Iowa, versus 52,000 a year ago, with average feeder weights around 713 pounds. Feeding costs run about 65 cents per hundred lower than last year. The trend shows a cautious, not dramatic, spring expansion with light-weight feeders favored and supply below the 1927-1931 average for January to March.
