Spray timing for rosy buds and calyx spray in apple orchards
Growers aiming for fancy apples should spray during pink blossom buds to prevent scab and destroy young caterpillars such as moths and leaf rollers. A spray mix of 244 gallons lime sulfur and 2 pounds lead arsenate per 100 gallons is recommended, applied during agitation. A calyx spray at 94 percent petal drop targets end-of-bloom moths, aiming lead arsenate into the calyx cavity before closure. A fine misty spray with strong force is advised for both times.

Wet grass increases risk. death from suffocation or rupture can occur in 30 minutes to several hours.
