Unpaid Past Loans Do Not Bar Feed and Seed Loans

Arthur J. Pett, Field Supervisor for the Emergency Crop and Feed Loan Office, said unpaid prior year feed or seed loans are not a bar to new loans if nonpayment was due to causes beyond the farmer's control such as drought or hail. The government seeks to ensure farmers have credit to farm this year and loan checks are generally delivered within a week. Loans bear 4 1/2 percent interest and are secured by a mortgage on crops or livestock.
