Reverend Dobberstein Settles Bear Injury Case Out of Court
Frank Goodness of Sturm Lake sued Father Dobberstein of West Bend for damages to his three year old daughter after a bear near the grotto in West Bend bit the child’s hand and arm two years ago. The case was settled out of court with Dobberstein voluntarily paying $2,500, though the claim is viewed as unjust by many. The bear was caged behind iron bars with warning signs, and the child’s parents allowed her to approach the enclosure. It is thought private subscriptions may cover the payment to spare Dobberstein.
