The El Dorado Hills Arts Association hosts its annual studio tour on May 31 and June 1. Local artists welcome visitors to their homes to view and discuss their art.
Oak Ridge High School honors its Athletes of the Year for standout performances across sports. The school highlights top students who excel on the field and in front of cheering crowds.
The El Dorado Hills Fire Department rents flotation vests to boaters at Stations 84 and 85. Borrowers provide a California driver license and the weight estimate of the person needing the jacket. Loans last up to three days and the program runs year round.
El Dorado County Board of Supervisors met in a May 20 closed session with legal counsel to review whether District 2 Supervisor Ray Nutting should be suspended by operation of law following his May 14 verdicts. Nutting was convicted of six misdemeanors, acquitted on three of four felonies, with one felony mistrial. The board deferred comment to Judge Timothy Buckley, who will determine if the misdemeanor convictions trigger removal under Government Code 1770(h) at the June 6 sentencing.
A May 20 wreck on Highway 50 near El Dorado Hills Boulevard left both drivers with moderate injuries. A white Ford Explorer blown tire eastbound at 2 55 p m lost control and struck a gray Hyundai Santa Fe, which then hit a concrete jersey wall and overturned. Names not released.
Hope Migliaccio assistant principal at Pleasant Grove Middle School won the Charter Administrator of the Year Award from the El Dorado County Association of California School Administrators for outstanding leadership and service. Her work improved attendance and guided staff through Common Core, contributing to a 40 point rise in the school's Academic Performance Index.
Dorado Hills Natural Farms will host its first Strawberry Festival on Saturday May 31 from 4 to 8 p m. Local non profits including Run For Courage All About Equine Vision Coalition and Clarksville Region Historical Society will make and sell strawberry treats. The Rich Ayala Duet performs 6 to 8 p m with Latin rock jazz and covers. Visitors can tour 17 000 strawberry plants meet farm animals and browse a farm stand with produce.
