Oak Ridge recognizes students who excel both on the field and in academics, highlighting dedication, discipline, and well rounded achievement across teams and classrooms.
Johns Hopkins honors Adam Choe of Rolling Hills Middle School for a notable talent. District officials say the recognition highlights early achievement and promise in local students.
Autumn Porter Veatch a California native and Oak Ridge High School graduate is promoted to Major and will attend the JAG advanced course in Charlottesville Virginia. She has served as trial counsel special assistant to U S attorney administrative law and special victim counsel. Porter is stationed at the Defense Language Institute and has served with SETAF Airborne and the 173rd Airborne Brigade including a deployment to Afghanistan. She is married to Major Scott Porter and they have two daughters.
Dick and Sue Lawson were honored as Volunteers of the Year at All About Equine, a horse rescue ranch in El Dorado Hills. They moved from Connecticut two years ago and now volunteer six days a week, caring for horses on 15 acres while dreaming of a home where they can keep a horse or two.
An El Dorado County sheriff's deputy was arrested in Nevada on May 19 after Douglas County responders found drug paraphernalia during an emergency response at a Minden residence. Deputy Mark Zlendick was detained and later booked into the Douglas County Jail and has posted bail. He has been on administrative leave since 2004 pending the investigation.
Fire Station 84 in El Dorado Hills nears completion after a 4.9 million contract with SW Allen. Crews moved from Francisco Drive in 2013 and now expect to finish by late August with staff returning in September. Fire Chief Dave Roberts and Engineer Ben Cowles note 75 percent completion and an eager neighborhood.
The 11.5 acre public sports park in Serrano Village faces delays after Parker Development property issues. APAC backed the Sienna Ridge Drive Bass Lake Road site, but Village J-Lot H sale changes block access and complicates moves involving Parker, the CSD and KUSD. RUSD may buy Bass Lake land but aims to avoid disrupting Sellwood Park.
Oak Ridge High School holds its graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday May 29 in the high school stadium. Village Life extends congratulations to the Class of 2015 and wishes graduates a bright future.
