Folsom celebrated the opening of Folsom Lake Crossing, a 970 foot four lane bridge over the American River. The project cost about $139 million, funded in four years and completed in two, with a scenic pedestrian walkway and capacity for 40 000 vehicles per day though 26 000 expected. The bridge relieves traffic in Folsom's historic district near the dam.
El Dorado County sheriff ruled the March 18 shooting of a dog by rancher Dan Russell justified after authorities found the dog harassed Russell's horses on unposted private land east of Stonebriar. Russell defended his action amid urban ranch land tensions.
Clarksville, a ghost town predating El Dorado Hills by 150 years, returns May 9 for the third Clarksville Day. The Clarksville Region Historical Society moves events from the library to the streets, with over a century of artifacts posing hazards. some buildings remain on private land at White Rock Road. Visitors may view from windows while town is sealed.
