In Vernon the return of major cotton buyers follows concerted efforts by Augens of the town and Wilbarger County to raise fiber quality and protect cotton in the field. Harriss Irby and Vose announce a Vernon district office to handle operations across Texas and much of Oklahoma with Warren Jr. named manager. Horses From Lower Circuit Eyed for Wilbarger Fair

Manager KR H Coffee says five horses have been signed from the lower circuit for the Wilbarger County Fair. The entrants include horses from Paris Clarksville Temple and other nearby towns. both pacers and trotters are listed as very fast. He also aims to attract strong entries from Oklahoma City due to large purses offered.

Anglers Claim Championship at Spring Lake Trip

B Daniel A C Boger and W Lundy returned Tuesday from a fishing trip to Spring Lake near Douns with a record they claim secures Wilbarger county anglers’ championship. They caught sixty five bass at about one per minute. fish weighed from ten pounds down, according to Daniel.

The Missionary Society of the Methodist Church held an all day session noting that more than half of Americans lack religious belief and urging a Christian revival. Three large white trucks loaded with well drilling equipment traveled through Vernon on Wednesday. The convoy, composed of oil operators, carried gear from Casper, Wyoming toward Ranger.

The grand jury returned two felonies and three misdemeanors this week. It warned parents about late curfews and neglect of children, and cautioned farmers against cultivating and blocking public roads. Russell Family Mobilizes for Ill Father in Artus Okla Visit

Roy C. Russell and his family hastened to Artus Oklahoma to reach R C Russell's bedside as his father remains seriously ill after a prior period of improvement. Poor health has afflicted him intermittently with relapses during the past week.

Mayor Mason routes $500 relief for storm sufferers

Mayor Harry Mason wired $500 for Corpus Christi area relief after Sunday's Gulf Coast storm. Governor Hobby appealed for aid, with L. J. Massie and J. T Pendleton assisting. By nightfall Vernon contributions reached $614, and Wilbarger county donors were expected to match. The storm caused extensive damage. 256 dead, at least 500 feared killed, and losses estimated at $10 million. Relief efforts seek $5 million federal aid and local funds through appointed volunteers to collect donations. Reports from Corpus Christi describe widespread ruin and three to six foot flood depths, with 2,000 to 4,000 people homeless.
