The Wilbarger County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual election Monday October 27 in the Waggoner National Bank director's room from 4 to 6 PM.Adult members may vote on an executive committee of twelve to select next year's officers The unit expects 3300 members and plans a heart and a dollar drive instead of a funds campaign.
Mrs J G McCarroll will host Culture Club next Tuesday afternoon. Mrs L E Fisher will speak on Beauties of the Music of the American Tidian. Mrs T J Rouse and Mrs Peyton E K Phillips will perform Indian music pieces. Mrs W E Mays will discuss Bolshevism its cause and cure. Mrs Harper Reed will talk Should America Reject The League of Nations. Assistants include Mesdames W A Wilhelm BE Piper and T L Rouse.
A. M. Goodpasture returned from Wood and Van Zandt counties with news of many workers seeking cotton picking jobs after harvest. He notes heavy rains will shrink western crops and suggests attracting workers to East Texas to meet local needs amid westward migration.
Mrs. Rena Watts came home Friday after a month visiting relatives in Dowagine and Michigan. She says her sister Mrs. Addie Streich, who stayed with her last winter and was said to be seriously ill, is much improved but cannot accompany her home as planned.
Mrs Goodpasture whose death occurred Thursday night in Lubbock was buried Sunday afternoon in the Fargo cemetery. Religious services were given by Elder Whittaker of Tipton Oklahoma. The body arrived in Vernon Sunday morning. Friends extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
The Wilbarger County Red Cross chapter will offer a free winter course on hygiene home care of the sick first aid and related topics taught by a trained nurse. Mrs J Dale who aided during the influenza epidemic is asked to lead the classes with sessions in local schools and communities. Auxiliaries in every room will spread hygiene tasks and some schools may offer credit or graduation requirements.
Geo J Mason and County Missionary J W Arnspiger preached at Tolbert and Bethel as part of the Baptist drive for 75 million dollars. Dr L R Scarborough says expenses may be under 1 percent, with campaign costs kept low so most funds go to religious purposes. A top worker declined 25000 a year to stay in religious service.
J. W. Mote of Collinsville moved to his farm on route percent and has owned it three years. He says he has lost money so far but expects better times and now oversees the operation in person.
Miss Lena Pearson of Gatesville arrived Saturday and began teaching at Haney. Frank Wood serves as principal as the school opened yesterday morning.
Six monks began restoring Buckfast Abbey twelve years ago and have progressed without outside aid. One chapel is rebuilt and the tower is under reconstruction, with a projected ten more years to complete the ancient abbey. Buckfast sits near Ashburton in a Devon valley by the Dart. The abbey predates the Norman conquest with the earliest record a Canute grant of 1015 to Buckfast monks.
The Timnever Company of Texas has received most of the furniture for its new offices over the Oil Exchange. Four rooms will form the suite with golden oak desks file cabinets and green plush floors. Expenditure exceeds $2 000 and Colonel J J Hunter of Austin joins Messrs J D Parnell J C Wekernwell and A P Peek.

Only twelve men have paid poll taxes. property taxes are arriving as old residents settle in, says Collector Blair. The heavy workload from automobile license fees may delay other taxes this year.
Ollainlon is the sole school tested in West Texas for farm education under the Smith Lever Act, state officials say. The project, led by W. M. GaOmley, aims to conduct germination and grafting tests with about 200 dollars in equipment, supported by half the federal survey funding. A State Department of Agriculture representative visited, stressing practical science and tested methods to improve crop yields.
County Agent M R Tisdal requests all Cub members who grew any of the grain sorghums to report with complete records by November 10. Plans include two to four room units and single rooms with reception hall and dining facilities for single women. Dr R K Main visited Vernon reporting Thalia farmers pay five dollars daily for maize work and 275 pounds per hundredweight for cotton picking. He notes widespread illness among locals and calls for outside assistance to harvest crops.

Chas Hunt and family from Osceola Oklahoma moved to Vernon last week and will make this their permanent home living on South Wood street.
